Friendship and Commitment

Each of us is called to fidelity, to commitment,
even if this is simply the commitment of friend to friend. The friend senses the friend who is really commited.

There are false friends who are there to laugh when we laugh,
but not to weep when we weep.

There are false friends who are there to profit from our intelligence or our possessions,
but who disappear when we are sick or destitute or rejected.

A real friend, to whom we can say exactly what we feel,
knowing that we will be listened to,
encouraged and confirmed in love and tenderness,
is an absolutely essential resource.

On the dark days we need the refuge of friendship.
The Holy Sprit uses small things to comfort and strengthen us.
